Planned water supply maintenance for 26 July to 1 August 2026

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will conduct planned work in the identified areas, which may result in water supply disruptions. This critical maintenance work is being done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly.
Maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
Residents are advised to store enough water in advance as a precautionary measure. Water should be stored in clean, sealed containers. This precaution does not guarantee that all residents will experience a water disruption, but it aims to ensure they can prepare if one does occur.
Planned maintenance work will result in a water supply disruption to these areas:
Stikland Industria, Bellville
The City will shut off the water supply to Stikland Industria and the surrounding areas on Sunday, 26 July 2026, from 08:00 to 20:00 in order to repair several leaks on a 225mm water pipe located in Labelle Road, Stikland. The affected areas include Labelle Road, between Old Paarl Road and Willow Road, including Groenvallei and Winelands Park and surrounds. Businesses in this area will experience no water supply during this period and are encouraged to store in clean, sealed containers for domestic use.
Kramat, Macassar Beach and Sandvlei
The City will shut off the water supply to Kramat, Macassar Beach and Sandvlei on Monday, 27 July 2026, from 08:00 until 18:00 to enable maintenance teams to carry out the emergency replacement of a faulty valve on the water supply line. The affected areas will experience no water supply during this period. Residents are encouraged to store water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use.
Wye Road, Manenberg
The City will temporarily shut off the water supply to a section of Wye Road, Manenberg, on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, from 09:00 until 18:00. This will allow a contractor to complete a new water connection. Residents on Wye Road, between Vygekraal Road and the Wye Road corner, will experience no water during this period. Residents are encouraged to store water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use.
Appian Way, Newlands
The City will temporarily shut off the water supply to Appian Way, Newlands, on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, from 11:00 until 12:00 to prepare for a contractor to complete a new water connection on Thursday, 30 July 2026, from 09:00 until 18:00. Residents along the entire length of Appian Way will experience no water during this period. Residents are encouraged to store water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use.
Martingale Avenue, Hout Bay
The City will be shutting off the water supply to parts of Martingale Avenue on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, from 09:00 until 19:00. This will enable the safe completion of water pipeline relocation required for the road upgrade of Martingale Avenue, Hout Bay. Residents on this road will experience no water during this period. Residents are encouraged to store water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use.
Clarkes Estate and Adriaanse, Elsies River
The City will temporarily shut off the water supply to Clarkes Estate and Adriaanse in Elsies River on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, from 09:00 to 18:00. This will allow a contractor to make new connections in Old Stellenbosch Road in Clarkes Estate, for a housing project. Residents in this area will experience no water during this period. Residents are encouraged to store water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use.
Blackheath Water Treatment Plant
The Blackheath Water Treatment Plant will be shut down from 06:00 on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, until 06:00 on Wednesday, 29 July 2026. The shutdown is required to commission the new compressor and to urgently replace the isolation valve at the cross-connection between the upper-to-lower reservoir pipeline and the Link pipeline. During this period, there will be no water supply to the Cape Winelands supplied via the upper-to-lower pipeline. Parts of Kuils River and Zevenwacht, which are supplied via the Link pipeline, may also experience water supply disruptions while the work is underway. Every effort will be made to complete the work as quickly as possible. Residents and businesses in these areas are encouraged to store water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use.
Part of Fresnaye
The City will temporarily shut off the water supply in parts of Fresnaye on Thursday, 30 July 2026, from 09:00 until 17:00. This will allow a contractor to install a new water connection in Avenue Des Huguenots. Residents in the following roads may experience no water during this period: Avenue Des Huguenots (from Avenue De Longueville to High Level Road), High Level Road, Avenue Le Sueur, Avenue Fresnaye, Avenue Disandt, Avenue De Longueville and Protea Avenue. Residents are encouraged to store water in advance in clean, sealed containers for domestic use.
Multiple areas supplied by the Tygerberg bulk water system
Residents in Century City, Tygerhof, Brooklyn, Koeberg, Ysterplaat, Summer Greens, Milnerton, Kensington, Factreton, Maitland, Goodwood, Athlone, Langa, WP Showgrounds, Pinelands, Thornton, Parow, Ruyterwacht and Grand West are advised of a planned water supply disruption from 07:00 on Friday, 31 July 2026, until 17:00 on Saturday, 1 August 2026.
This planned shutdown will enable the City's maintenance team to safely replace an offtake valve on the 1220mm diameter bulk water pipeline in Smart Street, Goodwood. Most affected areas are expected to experience low water pressure or no water during this period. Residents and businesses that continue to receive water are requested to use it sparingly to help sustain supply across the network while the work is underway.
Consumers are encouraged to store enough water in clean, sealed containers before the shutdown for essential domestic use. Water tankers will be made available to provide water for domestic use where required.
Zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network, resulting in water supply disruptions in the following areas:
- Tuesday, 28 July 2026, 09:00 to 16:00: Nomzamo (additional work will be done including determining discreteness of the zone, analyse logging data, conduct manual pressure checks and confirming the position of divisional valves and valves
- Tuesday, 28 July 2026, 09:00 to 16:00: Khayelitsha high level area (additional site investigations will include flushing the pipeline, conduct manual pressure checks and analyse logging data)
- Thursday, 30 July 2026, 09:00 to 16:00: Diep River
Residents are advised to store water in advance as a precautionary measure in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
Zero-pressure testing and step-testing are part of the installation process for zone management infrastructure. Tests are done in advance to see if any unmapped inflows need to be considered before installing new infrastructure (such as pressure-reducing valves for pressure management).
In these affected areas, some residents may experience low water pressure while some may have no water during the testing period. Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict which exact areas or streets will experience disruptions.
Additional zone management investigations will be carried out to ensure that the existing infrastructure is operating effectively. Pressure fluctuations may be experienced, but every effort will be made to minimise the impact as far as possible.
This work forms part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy. Managing water pressure more effectively reduces the possibility of pipe bursts and water wastage.
